Oxford churches join City's Jewish Community to remember Shoah
"It is a privilege to stand alongside our Jewish friends on this special day in the year," said the Revd David Gifford this week as the global Jewish community commemorate the Shoah - or Holocaust - where six million men, women and children were murdered in the Nazi death camps of Europe.
"Yom Hashoah is a day that touches the hearts and souls of Jewish people everywhere as they remember families - many within living memory - who perished in the Holocaust,"added Revd Gifford, who chairs the Oxford Council of Christians and Jews (CCJ), the UK's oldest national Interfaith organisation.
For over ten years, the branch has joined the Oxford Jewish Community in planning and running the annual Commemoration at the Oxford Jewish Centre synagogue.
Civic, University and Faith representatives with invited guests were present. However this year, meeting has not been possible with the COVID-19 pandemic.
The CCJ branch produced a video film to bring together the central elements of the Commemoration along with readings and reflections by members of Anglican, Quaker, URC communities and music specially compose for the video by Alexander Massey.
The video can be viewed here from 7. 30pm on Thursday 8 April 2021.
