Oxfordshire clergywoman, the Revd Dr Helen-Ann Hartley, has been appointed as the 7th Bishop of Waikato in New Zealand.
Helen-Ann served as full-time Director of Biblical Studies and Lecturer in New Testament at Ripon College Cuddesdon from 2008 to 2011.
For the last two years she has been Dean of St.
John's College, Auckland, NZ. Helen-Ann trained locally on the Oxford Ministry Course at Cuddesdon, was ordained in 2005 and served her curacy in the neighbouring village of Wheatley, and then later at Littlemore.
The College knows Helen-Ann to be an outstanding teacher and academic.
She served with great distinction on the staff at Cuddesdon.
College Principal, The Revd Canon Prof Martyn Percy, said "Whilst on the staff here, Helen-Ann was a much appreciated tutor and teacher, an outstanding colleague for staff, and a great mentor for our students.
We are delighted, as expected, that she would go on to serve the wider Church in a significant role.
We are truly delighted for Helen-Ann and the province of Waikato".
Helen-Ann will be the first Cuddesdon-trained woman to become a bishop in the Anglican Communion.
For someone who has done much to further the cause of women bishops in England, this is a very exciting development for the wider church.
