Holy water became high speed at Holy Trinity Church in Woodgreen this weekend as Bishop Gavin rededicated the roof and two new crosses on it.
Realising a traditional holy water sprinkler wouldn’t cut it, the Revd Chris Dingwall-Jones arranged for Bishop Gavin to take aim and reach the roof with a holy super soaker.
The major works were needed to repair the joists replace roof tiles and two stone crosses at the 19th century church. A £30,000 fundraising programme was led by treasurer Marilyn Wathes, church wardens Dair Henderson and Charlotte Tremain and chair of the roof committee Sue Hodges.
The Revd Chris Dingwall-Jones explained: “While the dedication service was traditional worship, there’s still room to celebrate in a joyful way – in this case with a super soaker! I’ve not long arrived so it’s a case of new roof, new vicar, new chapter!”
